The Educate-Act-Improve System
I’ve always found that most self-help gurus achieve their success teaching self-help, so I wondered about the authenticity in what they were teaching, as any sane human would. I was skeptical at first, still I decided to put into action the teachings I’d learned. Just as I was taught, success was knocking at my doorstep and I was taking it in.
To give you an example of some of the successes I’ve achieved, in little over 1.5 years, I
- Earned a 50% raise at my current job
- Launched a successful online real estate investing training, consulting, and mentoring website
- Achieved a top level Technical Certification (12 exams including a full day “lab exam”)
- Created a spending plan and eliminated 80% of my debts,
- Traveled to Australia and Europe
- Bought my dream car
- Recorded a studio album (to be released next fall),
- Finished Top 5 in points in my Hockey Team
What I learned is that I could break down 10+ years of education in success combined with strong parenting and support into 3 simple to understand steps. I call these the Rules of 3. They are the most fundamental part of the Educate-Act-Improve system. Once you understand the Rules of 3, you can apply the technique to anything you wish to achieve.
1. Educate: First step in achieving any goal is education. When doing anything, the key is to start from the most advantageous position possible. The easiest path to achieve advantage is to learn from others people mistakes (so you don’t repeat them) and their successes (so you can model them). You should spend at a minimum 3 hours for 3 days educating yourself before you move onto the next step.
2. Act: This is where you create your plan and then execute. The easiest way to increase your odds of success is to start something. If you never start, you have a 0% success rate. You must write your plan down (printed from a computer is ok as well) and read it 3 times a day for 3 days before starting your execution phase. In the execution phase, you must dedicate a minimum 3 hours a day, 3 days a week until you are satisfied with your accomplishment. Before you start, read your plan, and visualize the complete product for 3 minutes. If you are unable to dedicate this amount of time to your success, you need to clear off things that occupy your time that do not support your goals. Failure to act is the only true failure that has ever existed. The good news is that it is the easiest to correct. If this is the only lesson you take from the Rules of 3, you will have increased your quality of life forever!
3. Improve: It is unrealistic to think that your first attempt at anything will be your best you can do. Once your plan is in motion you need to review your progress and make any improvements to the processes. This is how I came up with the Rules of 3. I started with many scattered steps and improved them to a simple 3. When you stop growing, you start dying regardless of your physical appearance. When you are truly satisfied with your results, remove this item from your list of goals to free up time for your new aspirations.
